The mouth and tongue take in external things by tearing the things in pieces and gobbling them up.
On the contrary, they let their inside contact with the outside by making sound that we can't see and spitting it out to interact with external things.
The mouth which hides its tongue. The tongue which is the head of the internal world and shows itself when the mouth is open. The place where the mouth and the tongue exist together reveals blurred boudaries between the inside and outside of the world, the closeness and openness, and craving and violence. Bakhtin found the world we're living on in the mouth.
